INTRODUCING CAROLINA: FROM FLIPS TO FREESTYLE
Hi, I’m Carolina — a lifelong sports enthusiast, former gymnast, and now a calisthenics athlete on a mission to push the limits of what my body can do.
My roots are in gymnastics. For years, my training revolved around bodyweight movements — but mostly the explosive kind: back handsprings, backflips, whipbacks. So when I started calisthenics at the beginning of 2023, I was already comfortable with dynamic pushing movements. But pulling? That was a whole new mountain to climb.
From Ground Zero to Ring Muscle-Ups
Starting from scratch with pull strength was humbling — but it’s been one of the most rewarding aspects of my training. Slowly but surely, I’ve been building up the foundation for the skills I used to admire from afar. And now there's nothing I enjoy more than working on the skills that I love — whether it’s a Ring Muscle-Up, a clean HSPU, or some wild freestyle combo.
If I had to pick, rings are definitely my happy place. Almost everything on them makes it into my top favorites.
Chasing Strength, One Skill at a Time
Right now, I’m focused on freestyle calisthenics, combining dynamic power moves with clean static holds. I’m working on mastering skills like the straddle front lever and straddle planche, but I’ve learned not to rush the process — especially after working through a few injuries.
These setbacks have taught me to listen to my body, to train smarter, and to trust that progress will come. It’s not about how fast you get there — it’s about showing up, moving with intention, and enjoying the process.
In parallel, I’m always trying to level up my handstand game. These days, that means tackling the press to handstand, chasing the elusive one-arm handstand, and building towards a solid 90° HSPU.
Competition, Community, and the Road Ahead
Since last year, I’ve taken my love for the sport to the next level by stepping into freestyle national competitions. The adrenaline, the creativity, the community — I fell in love with the whole scene. And now, the goal is clear: participating in an international competition next year.
Whether I’m in a park, a gym, or the middle of nowhere, I’ve got everything I need to keep progressing.
This is more than training — it’s a way of life. It’s discipline, it’s creativity, and it’s freedom all rolled into one. And I can’t wait to see where this journey takes me next.
